Tomsk State University, founded in 1878, became the first Russian university in Siberia and the Far East. Today it is one of the best universities in Russia with the status of a national research university. TSU has 20 faculties and institutes, 135 areas of study and specialties, 42 scientific schools. In 2020, TSU took the 250th position in the QS World University Rankings.

 

About the University TSU

Tomsk State University offers programs of three different levels – Bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD, which are taught in Russian or English languages.

On the website www.inter.tsu.ru we have presented detailed information about our English taught and Russian taught programs. To be able to study one of the Russian taught programs, first, you will have to undergo our one-year preparatory language program. More details can be provided via email: int.admissions@mail.tsu.ru.

Applications can be submitted as of 15 January 2021. The deadline for applying is 20 July 2021.

All applicants are encouraged to start applications early by registering on the website www.admissions.tsu.ru and take their time presenting their best effort.

Applicants having the status of compatriots (ones who were born on the territory of the USSR or whose parent was born in the USSR) have the same rights as the Russian citizens and may apply to study on a budget-funded basis and take entrance exams held by TSU.

TSU dormitories are comfortable modern complexes located next to the main campus. Students are accommodated two or three people in a room (with a bathroom and toilet). Each floor has a number of fully equipped kitchens and spaces for study and leisure.

Directions and forms of study in TSU

TSU implements training at all levels of higher education: bachelor’s, specialist’s, master’s, PhD both in Russian and in English, and offers large-scale exchange programs. PhD students can simultaneously study PhD programs at a foreign university with the possibility of awarding the degrees of Doctor of Philosophy and Candidate of Sciences. The most popular programs at TSU are Information Technology, Software Engineering, Mechatronics and Robotics, Technical Physics, Economics, International Management, Philology, Linguistics, International Relations, International Journalism).

There are 22 dissertation councils at TSU (all 22 are doctoral), on average 20 doctoral and over 100 master’s theses are defended per year.

The Preparatory Faculty organizes one-year preparatory courses with a total workload of 2424 academic hours. Students can choose a study profile: humanitarian (history of Russia, journalism), natural sciences (biology, chemistry), technical sciences (mathematics, information technology).

At the end of the course, students must take a Russian language test. Students who successfully pass the test receive certificates confirming their level of language proficiency (level B1). These exams will be considered as entrance exams for the programs. Subject courses are optional for students wishing to pursue a Master’s degree.
